Department President 2010-2011
Pilar S. Reyes joined Rizal Unit 598 in District 10 under her eligibility through the service of her late husband Felix Reyes, a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. She has been a member of her unit for 25 years where she served as president (2 terms), vice president, held various chairmanships, and is currently serving as parliamentarian of the unit. At the District level, she served as president in 1991 and 1996, first vice president, second vice president, secretary, parliamentarian for several years up to the present time and held various chairmanships including leadership, constitution and bylaws and education. At the Department level, Pilar served as chairman of: Music, twice, Legislative, Americanism, Elections, Children and Youth, Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Chairman, Department Vice President and Membership Chairman in 2009-2010 and is currently serving as the Department President. She has received National Awards for Most Outstanding Overall Legislative, Children and Youth and Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Programs in the Western Division. She served as member of the Junior Conference Committee three times, as member of the UD&R Committee, and presently an ALA certified Leadership instructor. Pilar is currently serving as Le Chapeau of Alameda County Salon 236 of the Eight et Forty. Professionally, Pilar earned her degree of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of the Philippines. Since her arrival in the US in 1956, Pilar has worked in several research labs including her job at the University of California in Berkeley, as a research associate where she retired from after 27 years of service. In 1985 Pilar was chosen the Most Outstanding Filipino Immigrant by the International Institute of the East Bay together with 41 immigrants from other countries. Her other organization affiliations include the California Federation of Women?s Clubs, where she served as District President for 2 years, club president for 2 years, president of the District Past President Assembly for 2 years and held various district chairmanships.
